Transport Developments – October 2014

Battersea and Nine Elms is rightfully recognised as an area with a distinctive character and special feel. Now, all the advantages of community and local identity are to be married with rapid access to central London thanks to the Northern Line extension.

But this is not the full extent of the possible changes to Battersea’s transport infrastructure. The group developing Battersea Power Station have recently made a bid for a station on the proposed Crossrail 2 route, a proposal which would, according to the Evening Standard’s TfL source, “improve commuter catchment from the south-west to Battersea” as well as shorten journey times to central London.

There are also plans in motion to improve the cycle-friendliness of Battersea and Nine Elms. On the back of the recent Barclay’s Cycle Hire scheme rollout in Wandsworth, the Queens Circus roundabout is undergoing a substantial redesign. The pioneering lay-out will make Queens Circus London’s first major roundabout that separates cyclists from other vehicles and councillors hope it will be a template for others across the city.
