Battersea Booms with Job Opportunities

One of the many plus points to come out of the regeneration project at Battersea Power Station is the growth in employment opportunities for Londoners in the retail, hospitality, estate management and leisure sectors. In fact, up to 17,000 new jobs will have been created in the area by the time it’s completed.

With numerous restaurants and hotels opening around Battersea Power Station, as well as hundreds of retail units due to open in the Turbine Halls in September, the area is booming with exciting job opportunities.

Match-making service

One company in Battersea is providing a ‘match-making’ service for candidates and employers.

Battersea Academy for Skills and Training better known as BASE, is working in partnership with local jobs programmes, colleges, community organisations and schools to match local people with the thousands of new roles the Battersea Power Station project has provided.

BASE also works closely with local employers in and around the development to understand the current business drivers and the skills required to fulfil those positions available. It then provides skills-based training and mentoring to ensure those candidates are fully prepared and can ‘hit the ground running’ in their chosen career.

It’s all about the BASE

Working with the London Borough of Wandsworth (Wandsworth Workmatch) and supported by the London Borough of Lambeth, BASE ensures local residents receive vital pre-employment training. There’s a focus on addressing the gap between education and the workplace, and BASE works with candidates to improve the standard of their communication and presentation skills too.

A diverse range of apprenticeships are also open, which give locals the chance to kick start their careers and earn while they learn. There are also opportunities for career progression once the programme has been completed.

BASE aims to get over 70% of all people who complete their programmes into secure and sustainable employment, and to continue to develop their careers through ongoing upskilling.
